Regional cuisines of India shares many delightful dishes with pantry friendly ingredients. Am amazed to see our own Indian cuisine is loaded with varieties of dishes you can cook in an ease. Our Regional cuisines rocks, and whenever i cross a new dish from any part of India, i dont forget to bookmark them. Obviously my bookmarked lists is overflooding since a long and i have couple of dishes to dish out very soon. You might have noticed that i dont hesitate a second to try new dishes as i love to explore other style of cuisine than sticking with my usual cooking style. Am a person who love to try and test especially if the recipe calls for simple ingredients. One of my recent trial from Odisha cuisine is this Besan Tarkari which means as gramflour dumplings cooked in spicy curry.

Besan Tarkari, Besan Ki Sabji
This curry is completely vegan, glutenfree and definitely an interesting dish to give a try. Actually this  dish goes for a facebook group event in which i have been a member since few months. Every month either we cook with Alphabets or Recipe swap, and vice versa. Since i like challenges, i couldnt stop myself to join this group. This month’s challenge is Recipe Swap and i have been paired with Ankita Dash of Food Express Odisha. Ankita shares many delicious Odia dishes which are quite unknown for me. Obviously i was completely lost when i went through her space and i felt like making few of her odia dishes immediately, yes her blogs rocks. However this Besan tarkari caught my attention as this dish calls for different cooking process. Trust me, you should definitely give a try to this dish. And we loved it.
Besan Ki Sabji, Besan Tarkari

1cup Besan/gramflour

1 Onion (chopped finely)

1 Tomato (chopped)

2tbsp Ginger garlic paste

1+1/2 tsp Cumin powder

1+1/2 tsp  Coriander powder 

1tsp Turmeric powder 

1tsp Chili powder 

1/2tsp Kalonji/nigella seed 

2 Potato (peeled and cut into cubes)



Take the gram flour in a bowl, add quarter teaspoon of cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilli powder, kalonji and half a tablespoon of ginger garlic paste and salt.

Mix everything well and add two cups of water, take care not to form any lumps and keep aside for half an hour.

In a pan, add a tablespoon of oil, pour the already prepared gramflour mixture and stir continousely in simmer until the mixture gets thick. 

Transfer this mixture to a greased plate, with wet hands pat on the top of the mixture to flatten the mixture and let it gets cool completely.

Cut it in small cubes and fry in a pan until they turns golden brown.

Besan Tarkari

In the same pan, fry the cubed potatoes until they turns golden brown.

Now add the enough oil, add the chopped onions and saute until they turns transculent.

Add the ginger garlic paste and cook well. Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and fry until the oil gets separates.

Add finally the chopped tomatoes and cook for a while.

Now add the fried potatoes,cook for few minutes, add two cups of water and bring it to boil. Cook in medium flame until the potatoes gets well cooked.

Finally add the besan cubes and cook for few minutes, put off the stove.

Serve hot.
